In October 2020, spurred by the murders of George Floyd and others the previous spring, M.A.S.S. established a 25-member Standing Committee on Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI) to help shape its work going forward.
In May 2021, the Standing Committee unveiled an intensive, long-term, state-wide, superintendent-driven strategy to address the systemic and cultural barriers in our schools that prevent so many students and adults from knowing they, too, belong and will thrive. Its goal is to support every school to model anti-racist practice, diversity, and inclusion so that all of our students will learn and thrive.
Endorsed enthusiastically by the Executive Committee, the Strategy calls for work on three simultaneous, mutually reinforcing tracks:
- M.A.S.S. Internal Equity Audit, Action, and Strategy Refinement
- Guidance and Support for District Leaders
- Partnership, Advocacy, and Communication
