Summary:
Lynnfield Public Schools seeks an exceptional individual to serve as the Director of Student Services. Qualifications:
Massachusetts licensure as a Special Education Administrator
A Master’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, Leadership, or related areas
At least five years experience in the field of education as a Special Education administrator, teacher, school psychologist, or in a related Special Education position
Experience in supervising and managing professional staff
Experience in evaluating staff and programming

Responsibilities:
Performs all duties of Director of Special Education as defined by Chapter 766 regulations (MGL. c.71B 603 CMR 28.00) and ensures district compliance with federal and state education laws and regulations
Exercises general supervision over the screening, referral, evaluation, and placement for all students in need of specialized instruction and services and ensures decision making is based on close analysis of student level data
Plans, develops, coordinates and evaluates Special Education services and programs on a districtwide basis
Works collaboratively with principals and district office administrators to provide leadership, professional development, and support for integrating Special Education services and programs with general education.
Assists district and administrators in the adherence to all federal and state laws pertaining to student services
Coaches and evaluates Special Education administrators and some specialized providers
Meets regularly with Special Education team chairs and educators to review status of ongoing Special Education services and needs
Oversees students placed out of district, ensuring least restrictive placements, and developing cost effective in-district alternatives when feasible and appropriate. The director shares the responsibility with team chairs to attend out of district meetings and maintain necessary timelines.
Oversees coordination of all Special Education programs and related programs including: summer extended school year programs and all required trainings for staff
Directs the Medicaid Administrative Claiming process and direct billing of Medicaid eligible Special Education services provided by the district, for the purpose of gaining fiscal resources.
Assumes responsibility in legal proceedings and court hearings on any matter pertaining to Special Education.
Oversees problem solving, conflict resolution and dispute resolution procedures including negotiation, mediation, and BSEA proceedings
Works collaboratively to build strong, healthy, and open relationships with families and
community groups
Serves on hiring committees for Special Education and all related roles within the district
Responsible for completion of all state and federal reporting, and for Special Education budgeting, managing, and monitoring
Facilitates the liaison, contractual relationships, and evaluation procedures with clinics, hospitals, collaboratives, and other institutions serving Special Education students
Supervises and coordinates home instruction for homebound or hospitalized students
Oversees coordination of Special Education transportation for students as required
Serves as member of the Lynnfield Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC)
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or their designee
