In October 2020, M.A.S.S. established a Standing Committee on Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI) and a Planning Committee to support its work. In May, the Standing Committee unveiled an organization-wide, long-term strategy designed to ensure that every school in Massachusetts learns to model the anti-racist, inclusive practice required for every adult and student to learn and thrive. Endorsed enthusiastically by the Executive Committee, the Strategy calls for work on three simultaneous, mutually reinforcing tracks:
- M.A.S.S. Internal Equity Audit and Strategy Refinement
- Personal and Collective Reflection and Learning about unconscious bias, systemic racism and effective strategies for anti-racist leadership
- M.A.S.S. Guidance and Support for District Leaders to advance racial equity, diversity, and inclusion in their districts
Work is underway to implement the Strategy. Learn More about the M.A.S.S REDI Initiative.

In 2021, MASS adopted IDEAS (Initiatives for Developing Equity and Achievement for Students) after the closure of the EDCO Collaborative. IDEAS is a program that has been providing professional learning opportunities for school and district leaders and teachers for more than 30 years. IDEAS offers a variety of services, courses and seminars that help school and district communities develop anti- racist practices. From broad testimonials from our superintendents, IDEAS has been an excellent resource for educating teachers and school leaders. Learn More About IDEAS.
